Brooklyn Center does something almost no city in this metro does: it clears residential sidewalks itself, on a tighter trigger than it uses for streets. If you have been shoveling the public walk out of obligation, you may not have needed to.
The city's published standard: sidewalk snow removal occurs when there has been a snowfall of one inch or more, with the goal of completing all residential sidewalks within 8 hours. Note that this is a lower trigger than the street standard of 2.5 inches — sidewalks get attention before streets do by depth.
No property-owner deadline, fine or clear-and-bill provision is published, and no owner shoveling ordinance was findable. So the ordinance-clock pressure that drives quotes in Minneapolis and Saint Paul is simply absent here, and a Brooklyn Center contract is essentially a driveway number. What drives pricing elsewhere.
Under § 27-120(1): no parking on any city street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. — with no date range, so it holds in July — or for more than 6 consecutive hours at any other time. Under § 27-121 a vehicle in violation may be towed at police direction, with the owner liable for towing and storage. During a snow event, vehicles face citation as well as towing.
Streets are plowed on a snowfall of more than 2.5 inches or when conditions warrant. The boulevard is explicitly reserved for snow storage — residents are asked to move items at least ten feet behind the curb line.
Mailboxes get the cleanest wording in the metro: the city repairs or replaces properly installed boxes damaged by direct contact with snow removal equipment, and will not assume responsibility for damage caused by snow pressure.
