Mahtomedi runs a six-hour overnight ban and a 3-inch depth trigger — an inch higher than most neighbors — and clears its public sidewalks itself, on day two, leaving an inch or two behind by its own account. Small lakeside city, specific rules.
City Code § 13.01(2)(A): no parking on any public street from November 1 through April 1 between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., and no parking at any time when the snow depth exceeds three inches until the streets are fully cleared. Violation is a petty misdemeanor under § 13.01(7); the city says violators may be ticketed and towed but publishes no amount. One wrinkle: the city’s web page says “equals or exceeds 3 inches” while the code says “exceeds.” At exactly three inches, assume the stricter reading and move the car.
Three inches matches White Bear Lake and New Brighton and sits an inch above most of the metro. A standard 2-inch residential contract will fire on mornings the parking rule never does.
Mahtomedi clears public sidewalks and trails itself. Its own description: cleaning typically begins on day two after a significant snowfall, after all streets are fully cleared, and walks will not be maintained to a clean-pavement condition — the January 2026 newsletter says one to two inches will remain. No adjacent-owner snow duty or hour deadline is published; the code’s sidewalk section names dirt, branches and weeds, not snow. So the public walk is out of a residential quote unless you want it done sooner or cleaner than the city will.
Snow placement: the city says shoveling, blowing, pushing or plowing snow into a city street can result in a fine for the homeowner, and § 13.09(1)(E) prohibits depositing snow from private property onto a street or sidewalk. No amount is published; the state statute supplies one.
Individual mailboxes damaged during plowing are not authorized for repair unless there is physical evidence the plow hit the box; where there is, the city reimburses up to $75 with receipts. Install spec: 48 inches above street level, 6 to 8 inches behind the curb line. No reporting deadline is published. The Public Works garage hotline is 651-773-9730.
